The global recession will reduce computer sales by 8.2%

According to a report released by IDC, the sales of tablet PCs will also reach 158 million units this year, down 6.2 percent from 2021.  Global demand for computer and tablet PCs is being adversely affected by a variety of factors, including lockdowns caused by the Cavid-19 epidemic, Russia-Ukraine war, and inflation.

Jitesh Ubrani, research manager at IDC's Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers division, said production in the computer manufacturing sector has been disrupted for a long time due to the supply crisis.  Factories are not getting the necessary equipment due to lockdowns and restrictions imposed in China due to the transmission of Kavid-19.  At the same time, due to the increase in freight, there is a big problem in the market of manufactured goods.

He added that although the ban on Kavid-19 has been lifted quickly, the position or demand of those working in the supply chain has not yet been made public.  As well as the ongoing supply chain crisis, it will continue for the rest of the year.

Although computer sales are forecast to decline in 2022, analysts and researchers hope to remain ahead of Corona.  The report states that the new device will be a driver in the emerging technology market, especially in response to commercial demand.  The report also said that computer sales will return to normal in 2023 and beyond.  However, due to the decline in sales this year, the compound annual growth rate of the last five years will remain at 0.6 percent.

Ryan Reith, group vice president of IDC's Worldwide Mobile Device Tracker division, said that in addition to the Kavid-19 epidemic-related problems, the equation of computer sales now includes war, inflation and China's lockdown.  On the other hand, in the first quarter of the year, about 20 million units of personal computers or PCs including desktops, notebooks and workstations were sold in the US market.  Revenue from PC sales has increased by 40 percent.  However, according to the unit, PC sales decreased by 14 percent compared to the same quarter last year.  This information has come up in a recent report of technology market analyst firm Canalis.

As workers from different sectors return to the office, there has been a boom in desktop sales.  Compared to the same period last year, sales of desktop PCs in the US market increased by 33 percent.  A record number of notebooks were sold in 2021 due to government subsidies on students' Chromebooks.  Tablet PC segment stabilizes with 5 percent growth.  Brian Lynch, an analyst at Canalys, said PC sales have fallen for the third consecutive quarter as demand for affordable PCs has fallen.  Slowdown and inflation have affected demand in the education sector.  Last March, inflation in the United States was 7.5 percent, the highest since 1981.

Lynch added that hybrid or mixed work processes have played a role in increasing PC sales in the commercial sector.  Things like enhanced audio-video capabilities, long lasting batteries were the things that consumers wanted.
