Microsoft has announced that it will shut down the web browsing platform Internet Explorer next Wednesday.

Microsoft said in a blog post that the future of Internet Explorer is 'Microsoft Edge'. The company says its Edge browser offers a faster, more secure and more advanced browsing experience than Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer was launched in 1995 as an add-on package with Windows 95 operating system. At first it was launched as an add-on package but later it was offered for free download by Microsoft.

Internet Explorer reached its peak of success in 2003. At the time, Explorer accounted for 95 percent of all Internet browsers used worldwide. However, with the advent of new browsers in the competitive market, the popularity of iconic browsers is slowly declining.

In 2016, Microsoft decided to stop working on the feature development of the browser. Then Microsoft launched a new browser called 'Edge'. Since then, the US company has started focusing on new browsers. That's when the company made the initial decision to shut down Internet Explorer.

Explorer's service has been phased out since 2020. Internet Explorer support was discontinued by the Microsoft team in November 2020. Internet Explorer support was discontinued from Microsoft 365 in August 2021. According to a recent report, the service will completely shut down all features from June 15.

The future of Internet Explorer depends on Microsoft Edge, said Shawn Lindersay, program manager at Microsoft Edge.

Shawn Linders also said that the mood of Internet Explorer is in Microsoft Edge. As a result, all legacy websites can be browsed directly.
